Summary
  • Paddington hits the jackpot: The Browns are watching a quiz program on television when Paddington appears on the screen. The quizmaster asks Paddington several questions, which he answers in a manner that confuses and exasperates the quizmaster, but finally he wins the jackpot-- a hundred pounds. Paddington says he would like to give the money to the Home for Retired Bears in Lima, where his Aunt Lucy lives
  • Paddington hits out: Mr. Curry is entering a golf competition and asks Paddington to act as his caddy. Paddington marks the ball with a chunk of marmalade. He leans on Mr. Currys best club and breaks it in two. Mr. Curry steps on marmalade sandwich and hurts his leg. Paddington takes over, using the broken club, which is just his size. He wins the competition and the prize of a set of clubs, which he gives to Mr. Curry to make up for breaking his club
  • A visit to the hospital: Mr. Curry is in hospital and Paddington decides to visit him with cakes, grapes, magazines, etc. His hat, containing marmalade sandwiches sticks to his head, so he asks the receptionist at the hospital if he can have his head examined. Mr. Heinz, a psychiatrist, interviews Paddington and tells him to give him a word with the opposite meaning to those he will call out. All goes well until Mr. Heinz says we've nearly finished. We've only just started, cried Paddington. Will you stop! yelled Mr. Heinz. No, I won't cried Paddington. Mr. Heinz is exasperated and says it is his first failure in forty years, and a bear and he ought to have his head examined
  • Paddington recommended: Mr. Brown arranged to take everyone to lunch at a restaurant. Paddington arrived first carrying the Duncan Hyde Good Food Guide. As far as he could see this restaurant wasn't highly recommended in the book. He looks through the window, his mouth waters, so he enters. The manager thinks he is Duncan Hyde and offers him a table near the window and recommends a variety of dishes. Paddington says he'll try some of each. The Browns arrive surprised to see him surrounded by remains of food and Mr. Brown is shocked at the size of the bill, and Paddington groans through over-eating. The manager is delighted when crowds gather outside the restaurant to watch the bear and queue to enter
  • Fortune telling: Paddington, on his way for morning cocoa with Mr. Gruber, sees a poster advertising a Fair. Mr. Gruber tells him all about Fairs and suggests he visits the fortuneteller first. He enters Madame Zazas tent, and she examines his paw and says he has a very long lifeline. Paddington tells her that's marmalade. Madame Zaza gets busy with her crystal ball and says she sees a pink cloud getting bigger and bigger it turns out to be the candy floss Paddington is holding, which is all over the crystal ball. Madame Zaza is furious. Paddington makes a quick exit on his way to the big wheel
  • An unexpected party: Paddington, to his surprise, finds all the Browns holding a party in his honour. Mr. Gruber gives him a book: One hundred ways of tearing paper. Paddington consults the book. The first item is The mystery of the disappearing banknote. He borrows a note from Mr. Curry and tears bits out of it. It is supposed to turn up in Mr.Curry's ear but Paddington had turned to the wrong page and has made a paper doily. Mr. Curry is furious and Mr. Brown offers to pay Mr. Curry for the torn pound note. Mrs. Brown tells Paddington that a cable has arrived from the home for retired bears in Lima, stating that his aunt Lucy is celebrating her hundredth birthday and they wondered if Paddington would like to go there. Paddington comes down the stairs with his case packed
  • Paddington in court: On a visit to the law courts Paddington is mistaken for the wrong Mr. Brown and finds himself involved in the trial instead of just watching
  • A picnic on the river: The Browns have a picnic on the river allowing Paddington to do the rowing until he falls in
  • Paddington's patch: Paddington enters a competition for the best garden rockery but he ends up causing a lot of trouble at the local building site
  • In and out of trouble: Paddington tries to get into a hammock for the first time
  • Paddington at the Tower: Mr. Gruber takes Jonathan, Judy and Paddington to the Tower of London. Paddington nearly brings the famous black ravens back home with him
